Hey friends!! It’s Monday and for most peepsies, I would say it’s a short week…except I know my friends in retail {specifically JT and Jenna} will be rockin’ it all week long {BOO}. But for me, thanks to the Pilgrims and the Indians {er, Native Americans…not really sure what is PC these days} it is very short.
So it’s Turkey Day Week, Thanksgiving, the day of Thanks, and all that jazz. It’s a week where, if we’re lucky, we stop, we reflect, we wear expanda-pants {a pregnant person’s dreamland, where everyone wants to unbutton their pants at the end of the meal} and we maybe, even possibly, get to do all that with people who are our nearest and dearest. Pretty awesome tradition, I say.
We, at the Brehm house, attempt to share a piece of gratitude with one another each and every day. I’ve written about it here before … each night we sit to eat dinner and we deliver to one another, our Thankfuls. I’m sure some will find that whole thing a little too kumbaya, but to me, it is deeeelightful. This has been going on since words started spilling from Barrett’s mouth and the addition of Jonah’s thankfuls is just icing on the cake. Even with his somewhat limited ability to articulate, Jonah finds a voice of thanks. Even the smallest of peeps have things to be thankful for. It’s not a pressure-thing, some days, this momma is just thankful that daddy got home when he did. And others, thankful that peanut butter and jelly is a constant in our home and is great for the last minute scramble. But it’s the idea that in each and every day, at least for the life we are currently living, we can find something … some little bit of redeeming morsel for which to give thanks… I think that can feel pretty profound. And for that, we’re pretty darn fortunate, right?
So today’s song was going to be, well, a little zany. In fact, really Zaney. Full-on Zaney zanerson. It’s from a crazy, zany kids band, Dan Zanes and friends. And it is called Thank You. But very sadly, I could not find a good way to share it with y’all. If you want to go look it up and listen to a little blip on Amazon or iTunes, knock yo self out. It’s full-on kids wave your sleigh bells and knock your lollipop drum crazy. Perhaps an acquired taste. But the boys loooooove Dan Zanes and friends so it is what it is.
Instead, I bring you this mellow tune to start your Monday. A song that was my dears and mine many moons back. And it reminds me every time I hear it to be thankful for Husker Basketball, young optimistic love and that in every day, you can have a moment that makes it the very best. day. ever.
These Are the Days – Van Morrison
Happy Thanksgiving week! What are you thankful for?
