Hey, it’s Tubes-day! It also happens to be Tuesday but that is simply a coincidence.
Mr. HarrBear is getting tubes put in and his adenoids taken out and boy are we excited. I know, it seems weird and perhaps even a bit delusional for a parent to be excited for:
a) their child to be put under anesthesia
b) their child to have something foreign placed in their body
c) their child to have a part of their body that they were born with removed
But for us, it’s been same song, different verse {this seems to be the theme of my life…}. Three boys, three chronically infected sets of ears. So we are giving a big ol’ thumbs up to both procedures. Harr has had more than 5 and less than 10 ear infections. Each time, it’s a double whammy, making for a very, very dissatisfied customer. And each double whammy results in at least one round of antibiotics {have I divulged here that my pharmacist and I are now friends? Like we hang out together?}. Which also leads to diaper rash and of course, upset stomach. And sometimes, a yeast infection {didja know boys can get yeast infections? I mean, it makes sense but is yet another thing motherhood has taught me}. Of course, it also can make for a resistance to antibiotics and that is good for nobody. And the rest of the time, the kid’s nose is a leaky faucet. And the adenoids have become a sespool for germies to congregate and shoot the breeze. So we’re ousting them in the process. So while it may be nutty mcnuttertons to be excited for such things, we absolutely are.
To tell you I asked for tubes while he was in the NICU would not be a lie. And though partially in jest, I had a feeling we might be taking this route again. There seems to be a bit of a link between MSPI/refluxy babes and ear infections, or so I am told, and as such, all three boys have shared the same ear issues.
