Okay. Do me a favor. Stop what you’re doing… unless you’re reading this… then only momentarily stop once I give you your marching orders to do what it is I’ve asked you to do for me.
Find a mirror.
Or reverse your phone into selfie mode.
Look into a spoon.
Whatever you have to do to see yourself and see the whites of your eyes, do that for me, would you?
Okay. So you’re there, you see you looking back at you, right?
Okay. Now repeat after me: I am changing someone’s life today.
Don’t pussyfoot, friends. Say it.
Did you say it?
Try one more time. Look yourself square in the retinas {I have a friend who is probably shaking her head at that directive. Because really, I don’t know my elbow from my retina. Boobs, I could tell you about these days, but retinas, I’ve very little knowledge on…} but back to you, looking yourself in the eyes. Now say it:
I am changing someone’s life today.
And then, take your left palm and pat in on your right shoulder a couple times. Or high five yourself. Or chest bump yourself… well, that actually seems impossible. But give yourself a little time to breathe in, breathe out, and know that YOU… YES you… you are changing someone’s life today.
Wonder how I know? Because little old me is being impacted by each and everyone of you, every day right now. I had a very tough first half of the week. I was pretty sad. I was pretty scared. I was pretty real. And today, I’m here to tell you that YOU are awesome. Because so many of you… And your prayers… And your kindness… They are at work, people.
So in case you, too, were having a tough week… Maybe you have strep. Maybe work is the worst. Maybe someone kicked your dog. Or maybe some guy stole your lunch {that guy is a jerk, FYI}. Guess what?! Great news… you are changing someone’s life today. That’s a pretty big deal. So really, you’re a pretty big deal. Like Ron Burgundy, leather bound books big deal.
It isn’t the first time I’ve said this… and for sure, not the last, but goodness me, I get the privilege of friending, knowing, interacting with, getting hilarious videos and messages from, being prayed for by, having love and light from, and sharing space with the very best people. On bad days, that’s a bright spot in the world. On the good days, it’s basically gold. And on all the normal days, it’s just a beautiful part of living.
Some days are tough, some days are downright hard, and some are incredibly lovely. And on all those, for me, it is the people who are part of them who seem to be quite the game changer.
So tell yourself you’re a rock star and go kick this day in the behind.
And now you can put the spoon down. And stop taking snapchats. And just know, you are nailing this whole being a good human thing.
If the whole world were like you people, oh what a world this would be!
