20 Things I Will Never Miss About High School

Ummmm… why did I post that picture of that blurry guy and I in crazy folk costumes? Because tube socks, people. White. Tube. Socks. Why oh why?! Oh, high school. I’ve recently been reminded of the constant drama and hormones that are running through every high schoolers’ veins and through that, have been reminded that those are the reasons I am perfectly happy never repeating high school.

Outside of the fact that straighteners had yet to be invented, there was a whole lotta pressure and stuff that came with the high school scene that seemed reeeeeaaaaallly painful and hard at 16 and I have to be honest, when I think of some of it, I think it would still seem really hard now.

Check out my post from yesterday covering the 25 Things I will forever miss about high school and add yours if you’re so inclined. And for today, I’m looking at the flip side of things. Let me know what you just don’t ever miss… and if you think I’m coming out with a college edition, you have another thing coming. I would totally repeat sophomore through senior years of college over and over again. Because, college.

20 things I will never miss about high school

1. Having to pay buy the minute for long distance phone calls. Where half the convo was usually silence. Because when your boyfriends are often from out of town, you had a lot of breathing on the phone because neither of you really knew what to say.
2. Boot cut jeans. Because I wasn’t wearing boots. Unless they were Doc Martens
3. Constantly wondering if I was cool enough. Smart enough. Nice enough. Pretty enough. Enough enough.
4. Comparing myself daily to my siblings’ achievements. Even though no one else was.
5. The whole group showering situation after PE and games. Because I was flat as a board. And mortified about that fact.
6. That whole lock situation. Because I never learned how to unlock my senior locker. Thank goodness the boy next to me was kind enough to help me. Every passing period. Of every day.
7. That feeling when you like a boy and they don’t like you back. Ever.
8. Standardized tests. Also in my reasons I never went into nursing, law, medicine… and on and on and on.
9. White tube socks. What made us think that looked cool?
10. Making out in cars. Or basements. Or random country roads. I mean… making out was fun. But why did it have to be in such odd places.
11. Hoping cliffs notes were enough to get you through a test if you didn’t read the whole book. Not that I ever did that {Shane}.
12. Chunky black loafer heels. They are terrible. I don’t care if Cher Horowitz wore them or not.
13. Being at school at 7 every morning. For basketball. Or volleyball. Or cheerleading. Or show choir. Or jazz band. Or… or…
14. Reading Beowulf. We did get a cool assignment from it but I will never read that book again.
15. Not knowing which group I belonged to. Or if I ever would belong.
16. Feeling like every loss or every time I didn’t get the part or ace the tryout was the end of the world and realizing that its because at the time, it really was, the end of the world.
17. Chemistry. Calculus. Geometry.
18. High waisted button-fly jeans. I know, they’re back. I also know I won’t be wearing them.
19. Not having any confidence with the opposite sex. And being so scared I could barely be myself in front of them.
20. the Macarena.
