We wait. We wait until…
We’re older.
We have enough money.
We’re done with school.
We have more time.
The baby sleeps through the night.
The kids are older.
We are in better shape.
We have a different house.
We know what we really want.
Nursing is over.
We have a different job.
We feel better.
We find love.
The kids are all out of the house.
Tomorrow.
…
It’s natural. We wait. We wait until we feel absolutely ready to make a change. Or a leap. Or a jump.
We are cautious. Pensive. Analytical.
As mothers, we consider most everything else first — our spouse. Our kids. Our home. And on and on.
But what if, even once a week, we put ourselves first?
…
I quit waiting. I don’t mean that I maxed out a credit card on things I can’t afford. Or I immediately ran a marathon without any training. Or I flew away to Belize and left the kids behind.
But cancer. It flipped my entire world, my entire perspective on its backside. It shouted at me start living your life today.
Stop being too tired.
Too tied down.
Too busy.
Too afraid
Too worried what other people think.
Stop.
And then, figure out how to start.
…
Start small. Start real. Start today, if you can.
…
And if you’re not ready… if you can’t start… if you can’t regroup… ask yourself why. What is holding you back, or who? And ask yourself, if I can’t start now, then when? And mark your calendar to revisit your dream, hope, thoughts, in another week… for reassessment.
There will always be things in the way of your thing. There will always be mountains to move… some you can’t move on your own, so who will you need to call on — family, friends, God, children? And it won’t all happen tomorrow. It will take time, effort, perseverance, and sometimes, so many unknowns.
But you can do this. You can.
…
Maybe you’re already going for it. Maybe you took the plunge and life feels more like itself. Maybe you are content. If so, then you know. You know what an incredible freeing feeling it is to truly live life.
But what if you haven’t?
What if someone tells you tomorrow that you’re sick? Or you’re fired? Or that all your “knowns” have changed?
What are you waiting for?
We wait. We wait for sunnier skies. We wait for tomorrow. We wait for Friday.
But what if we didn’t?
