Barrett Thomas Brehm is 11 months young today. As I have done each month, I’d like to take a breather from my ponderings on motherhood and catalog the ins and outs of Barrett’s month. I can hardly believe when I look back at his newborn pics and see our pre-prime peanut, that the Barrett we now know is the same as the one we met almost a year ago today. We are just one month from the one year milestone and wow, has it been a year. The babe we know today seems so vastly different from the less than 5 lb package we brought home with us eleven months ago.
The eleventh month has marked many new happenings. Barrett has become mr. Grabby hands … he must have his hands in anything and everything and because he gets around so quickly, these things sometimes end up in his mouth. I have found myself doing the mouth-sweep on a few occasions as of late and am thinking I need to invest time in dusting off my baby first-aid I once had down pat. Baby B has become quite efficient at getting up and down on his own whim. He developed a love for clapping this last month and does so anytime someone utters the word good and waves hi and bye on occasion. He loves to go up and down from our coffee table to crouching to the floor and finds his way around the table, couches and most things at appropriate height with ease. He seems to enjoy exploring the ins and outs of the house and for the past couple of months has managed to bend off every door stopper we have. Barrett continues to be a splendidly happy babe … especially when in public. He seems to have a preference for being around lots of people, will go to pretty much anyone and absolutely adores his grandparents. He smiles all over himself. He has twinkly smiling eyes. He is a ham for the camera and loves to be doted on {perhaps why he loves his grandparents so}.
Barrett loves to eat. I don’t even know that I can describe how much eating seems to elate him. He is eating a good bit of table foods, some prepared baby foods and in the next month he will get to try out real moo milk. Though he does some random babbling, we’ve not heard anything that really makes sense in the way of talking so I won’t be shocked if walking comes first. He sleeps well at night for the most part and naps are still the cause of much gray hair of mine. Barrett does not currently enjoy riding in the car at all and he does not like when someone else is eating and he is not. He showed little interest in the wrapping paper at Christmas and as I guess is pretty standard with most kids his age, he prefers to play most with items that aren’t toys {pots, pans, cords, etc}.
Tomorrow Barrett will go in for surgery to repair a bilateral hernia, descend his testicle and separate his syndactyly on his left hand. Much like I’ve stated at the end of every month lately, it honestly does get better and better with each passing day. Eleven months… we’ve arrived.
