I know, I know… where have I been all your life? I really have no truly good explanation though I do have a list of excuses a mile long… just ask me. As any mother of a toddler feels, it seems as though these days, we barely get a chance to catch our breath. Barrett is a walking, babbling, sometimes temper tantrum throwing, opinionated, giggling, diaper change hating, dancing, book loving little man. Our days consist of perusing through book after book. In fact, after reading Race Cars Race Cars 16 times on Tuesday, I hid it for a day. I’m sure you’re hmming and haaing but we do what we have to do to stay sane and thus, the book needed a personal day. Barrett is on the go for all hours of awake time and I must be honest, I am often too exhausted to tend to the blog after he goes to beddy bye.
So, I’ve been a bit negligent but now I am here to catch you up on all things Barrett. In the last two months, Barrett’s been a jetsettin’ fool. Two weeks after our Austin trip, one of our good friends was trying to get rid of two American Airlines vouchers — good for anywhere in the US — and we were “willing” to take them off her hands. Two days after we booked our flights, we headed to bright and shiny, Phoenix, Arizona to visit a dear family friend, Judi, her boys — Shane and Logan, and her niece and a high school friend of mine, Kara. Having never been to Phoenix, I found the sunshine, relaxing and family time absolutely blissful. Barrett once again traveled pretty well, especially considering the time change and random flight times. We loved spending time with the gang and Barrett loved having the chance to see someone other than me for a couple of days.
Last week, we visited Dr. Dek for Barrett’s 15 month appointment. Though it is hard to believe it’s been 15 months since he dwelled inside me and also that I’ve been out of work that long, Barrett is chugging along like a champ and has come quite a long way since day 1. Barrett weighed in at 20 pounds and was about 29 inches long… and upon further examination, had a double ear infection. He was on track with most of the milestones though I question if he says the “required” 5-10 words {in the words of the nurse, anyone could understand that what he says is indeed what the word sounds like to adults}. While he says a few words quite well, he also calls 80% of things “duck” and answers “yesss” even when he doesn’t seem to mean it. He is a funny little thing and entertaining to boot.
Barrett can eat … and eat… and eat. But only if he decides he’s into what’s in front of him. While he used to be open to eating whatever I put in front of him, he now shows preferences and dislikes … becoming quite the little human. Barrett can go from laughing to crying to screaming and back to laughing in a matter of minutes … not sure where he gets the drama {hee hee} and prefers being outside whenever possible. Once completely chill when we would part, B now fusses and cries when we separate — whether I am heading out to the car or leaving him at the gym to workout. All in all, it may sound like we have a pretty normal toddler on our hands… but of course, we think he’s awesome.
Last Saturday we sheared Barrett’s baby locks and enjoyed looking on as his delicate waves gave way to a bigger boy style. If he’s anything like his dad, we’re likely going to spend his college fund on keeping his speedy hair growth in check. We’ve got plans for the summer months including KinderMusik, swimming lessons and spending lots of time at grandma and grandpa’s lake and pool. I’m hoping to stay more plugged into the blog with more sunlit summer hours … only time will tell.
