Barrett’s bugs are back at it again. After a round of antibiotics, his ears are still full o’ fluid, his nose is still stuffed with snot, fever in full force, his lungs and his cough is still encouragable. So, back to Village Pointe Peds we went. Three hours later, we went home with a negative pneumonia xray, another round of Omnicef to start on Thursday and Albuterol. Oh yes, and a card to schedule an appointment for a tube, tonsil and adenoid consult.
And, can I just say that I never wanted to be one of those parents who throws an antibiotic at every little whim and woe … and we chose a pediatrician accordingly. But with the amount of fluid Barrett seems to be keeping in his ears, we are left with very few choices. And with the amount of mouth breathing and drainage he seems to be prone to, the adenoids are yet another likely cold and flu culprit.
So, for now, breathing treatments, motrin, tylenol and antibiotics {and of course, Culterelle to accompany the antibi}. If we can just add some sleep to the mix, I think Mr. Barrett will soon be on the mend. At least for now… 🙂 And, although it’s heart wrenching to watch Barrett work through these rough spots, I am reminded of something Dr. Dek said just one year back, when we headed in for Barrett’s syndactyly surgery … and also when Barrett screamed his pretty little head off for the first four months of his existence … you will remember every minute of this, and he will likely remember none of it.
So, in 2010, Barrett got new fingers and 2011, so it seems, will bring New Y{ears}. Just holding my breath for 2012.
