Hey friends, Mama Brehm’s Mantel Extravaganza continues today!
Here’s the original mantle… white brick. Black mantel. And beige all around. And yes, that is a yellow post-it stuck in the screen because #ihavekids.
Today… we’re showcasing D3 Interiors focused and flawless, Brianne Wilhelm, Allied ASID Interior Designer.
I met Brianne after the Mr and I got hitched as she and he attended school together. She is so thoughtful and in tuned to people and that is evident in her finished product. She is a certified Interior Designer and works at D3 Interiors in Omaha. Brianne rocks at her gig because of her careful attention to every detail. I have hired Brianne to help pick paint colors {both interior and exterior}, as well as to help with design choices. She basically rocks my socks.
And she’s stunning. But that has nothing to do with the mantel, I know.
So, without further ado…
One more time, Mama Brehm’s design:

Brianne’s Mantel:
Sweet petunias. I love it so. Brianne’s use of warmth and texture had me swoooooooning. It feels like a page right out of Pottery Barn.
The pieces…
Large art as a focal point.
Brianne chose the perfect piece to draw all the components together… even a so-not-a-designer person like me could appreciate that. I talked with her about the art and she noted that interesting or unique art is worth spending cash on. In buying a limited piece, you are giving your home something personal to your style and taste.
Texture and Green.
Brianne used a few different plants and berries to bring life into the space. I so love this because while I kill most plants, I love the way they freshen up a room, and her faux picks made me think that maybe I could actually attempt to find something that would look good and be maintenance-free. And the pillows and blanket… cozy. warm. comfy. Without even trying.
Mix and Match.
Brianne mixed her pieces with some of my existing items. She mixed expensive (art) with inexpensive (Target candlesticks). She mixes brown with black. Wood with metal. And gold with silver. And even throws a bold orange into the mix. This is why she’s a professional. She can group unlike items and make them look like they’ve always belonged together. She is a master mixer. Brianne Mix-a-lot.
Scale.
The table. Oh. I love that table. And it fits perfectly in the space. And the chair next to it… I might give my first born for that. Okay. Maybe not quite. But I do love it so. Brianne perfectly placed all the little details from a stack of books to the perfect sized lamp. As a non-pro, I would say the thing I am the very worst with is scale! I often find things that I love that are too big or small for a space. Having a professional shop with you for pieces of furniture or accents is a surefire way to spend your money wisely on pieces that you want to have for a very long time.
And these large floor vases… I always see things like this in other people’s houses and think, “Wow… my boys would love to battle with those branches,” but after talking with Brianne, a fellow boymom, I’ve learned that you don’t have to sacrifice good design and lovely pieces just because you have Littles in the house. You just have to make sure you aren’t too attached to the things within reach.
My fave thing about Brianne’s space… her use of that corner! It’s just a dead corner in my room normally. I also love love love that she designed it without me in mind and yet, I loved it. Like, she didn’t think of me as the client for this exercise… she thought of the mantel and what she would do with it to showcase her mad skillz. And I’d have to say, showcase she did.
I want to snuggle up in this space… how about you?
A little bit more about Brianne Wilhelm, designer extraordinaire
Why Brianne loves working on design with her families
I love creating spaces for people to just live and be. I think your home is a sanctuary to escape the craziness of the world. It should bring you peace when you enter through your door; it should also reflect who you and your family are as individuals. It should suit your lifestyle, be well organized, and look purposefully put together. It is incredibly gratifying to help my clients create spaces through good design that work better for their lives and also look fabulous.
What Brianne sees as the biggest trend in design currently
Grey, grey, and more grey. From a grey wash on beautiful plank wood flooring to grey veining in your countertops, to beautiful grey upholstery fabrics, greys are available for any and all finishes in your home. I prefer to mix the greys with warmer tones so that your home never feels stark – unless that’s what you’re going for…
Brianne’s fave place for home decor
Well, I can’t give away all my secrets!! (Wink, wink…) So as designers, we get to attend national and international Markets where we can see everything all at once. A couple of our designers from D3 are at the winter Las Vegas Market now, and it is a spectacular place for inspiration, to see all of the amazing products we have at our fingertips, and to shop. However, I could never finish a job without a trip to Target! And I also love places like West Elm and Pottery Barn; trips to IKEA are always fun and inspiring, and locally, I do love Home Goods if you can catch them after a good shipment.
One thing she loves to infuse into any space:
Natural elements! Living plants bring a breath of fresh air to every space; I use high quality faux plants only when sunlight is insufficient. And it is rare for my home to be without fresh cut flowers. I have some favorite stems that last for weeks at a time and add a fresh pop of color and green.
Thank you, Brianne! I heart you, girl!
