Dear Jonah,
I’m excited for you to go to Kindergarten! I hope you have a fun time there. I wanted to give you some advice that will help you in Kindergarten because it’s different than pre-school.
Love, Barrett
…
Always be a nice kid. Nobody likes a jerk.
Be who you are. Don’t try to be other people.
Carpools are fun because we get to be with friends on the way to school.
Don’t “butt talk”… like don’t say butt and poop and fart at school.
Everything in Kindergarten is fun if you make it fun!
Feel confident.
Get hot lunch a lot. It’s really good!
Help others have fun at recess by playing with them.
If you feel sad, ask your teacher if you can talk to the Counselor (not every time. It’s not like you can just ask every time. {Also, mom removed name of counselor for safety purposes;)})
JA (Junior Achievement) is really fun!
Keep your school box organized.
Listen to teachers carefully (you don’t want to just listen. Listen carefully.)
Monday Music will shake off those Monday blues.
Never run in the halls!
Only Kindergarteners get rest time. Enjoy it!
Please. Say it.
Questions, ask them.
Read books you love!
Spelling can be hard and fun. Also, you have to know sight words.
Teachers are nice.
Use the Kindess Bench if you don’t have anyone to play with at Recess.
Vocabulary words are words you should learn to spell.
Write with your BEST handwriting.
eXit the school carefully during fire drills.
Yellow cups on the table at lunch mean you have to whisper.
Zip through Kindergarten. But happily!
…
Jo, I hope your liked my list. I’m happy I’m gonna be in school with you until I go to Middle School. Thanks for being a great brother.
Love, B
**Mom note: The hubs and I did a list like this, using A to Z, when the Oldest was headed off to school. The following year, I sat down with the Oldest and he came up with advice for kiddos heading to Kindergarten. We took last year off. And then, we sat down this year, two sleeps before the Middlest heads off to Kindergarten, and the Oldest came up with the words. I typed;).
