I recently talked with one of my fave friends about Push Gifts. Have you heard of a push gift? Prior to being pregnant with Barrett, I’d never heard of such things but my sweet and sassy friend, Jamie, was kind enough to clue Adam into the deets. The push gift is the gift that one receives when they push the baby out of their Girl Friday.
But the baby is the gift! Someone replied to me.
I’m calling bull honky.
Yes. The baby is the gift from God. And then the other gift, the push gift, is the something special…a small memento and token of your husband’s appreciation for your 8 months of carrying his child and the culminating event…laboring anywhere from 8 to 28 hours and then pushing a peanut out of your lady place. And thinking through it all again, I feel just fantastic about having received fetus favors.
I am not saying everyone has to be on board with the push present but I am saying is you can’t fault a woman for accepting such a sweet gesture.
I have been a two-time recipient of push presents and each of these treasured tokens are a daily reminder to me of the miraculous moments that Barrett and Jonah came into the world. And I don’t feel one ounce of guilt over my baby bounty. Now my push presents were nothing like 10 karat sparkler that Rachel Zoe received when she had her son Skylar or the reported $30,000 swag that Jessica Simpson is snagging for their little snuggler… I mean, after all, we had hospital bills, diapers to buy and takeout to order.
So whatcha think? Do you think push gifts are pretentious or precious?
