Let's Go {In}To The Movies… And TV

The other day as the children napped, I sat on the couch munching on dry cinnamon toast crunch, worked my way through a mixed pile of laundry, and tuned into Netflix to watch a show that was neither animated nor asked me to participate in the dialogue {Yes, Diego, I am talking to you. And yes, I am aware that I currently sound like the stereotypical version of a sahm. Showing off the perks of sitting on my couch, eating treats, and watching pointless tv. And I’m good with that. }. I’m not much of a tv watcher these days {yes, former self, cringe away} and especially not during the daytime. I generally keep the tv off and the music turned on. But darn Netflix. Waving its carrot in front of my nose. The carrot that is Rory and Lorelei Gilmore. The carrot that is the best show that has ever happened to women who are thirty but think they are still in college. Or high school. I’m in my 30s. Far past the intended target audience of the CW or WB or whatever that teen show engine is called. But I can’t help myself. I have always adored Gilmore Girls. I love that fast talking repartee. I love the sarcasm. I love the nutty characters. And Lorelei and Rory just get better and better very single time I watch the tv classic {yes I did just label it a classic. And it’s gotta be my 7th time through so I feel as though I can be a fair critic}. But what I love most, what I find myself hung up on with each episode is that idyllic Stars Hollow place.

Don’t get me wrong, friends. I lurve Omaha. And Nebraska, well, Nebraska is where my heart beats loudest. And as I stated previously stated, I find much perfection in October. But oh, Stars Hollow, if I had an invitation to walk your fanciful little sidewalks, and sit in the town square, and drink coffee at Luke’s, well I’d be there faster than you could say Sookie St James.

And so of course, that got me thinking about all of the TV and movie sets that I would absolutely love to step foot in, and live there for awhile.

So, in no order, and while there are probably a lot more beyond these, here are nine other movie and/or TV sets I’d love to live in, if only for a day…

// Dan In Real Life… I mean, I love this movie. LOVE. And that house that they have their family vacay at… Oh my heart. I would gladly head up to the Rhode Island coast every year if I got to stay there and listen to Steve Carrell sing his acoustic version of My Love Open The Door.

// Something’s Gotta Give… Yes, I’m actually 87 years old. And yes, I love any movie with Diane Keaton. I know, she’s cooky. But so am I. And the house that is in this movie… And the location on the beach… Is nothing short of my idea of perfection. I would gladly make pancakes from scratch if it meant I could do it in that kitchen. And of course, if I had a desk like hers, well, I am pretty sure I’d be knockin’ out books like it was my job.

// Father of the Bride… Who hasn’t wanted to have this house? Who?

// White Christmas… I don’t know if it’s because hearing Bing Crosby sing reminds me of my Grandpa Vince or if it’s due to my wee obsession with all things Christmas but The Columbia Inn in Pine Tree, Vermont, seems like the most idyllic location to spend a holiday. I would think Vermont’s gotta be lovely at that time of year, what with all that snow… Snoooow…

// Revenge… The whole murder situation may make it difficult to stay to terribly long on this set but the house that Emily Thorne owns, well, I think it’s evident by now, sprawling shake-shingled houses are my thing.

// Full House… I mean, duh, right? But only if I got to sing Mee-chele’s smiling, hang out in that parqueted floor living room, and live as part of the Tanner gang.

// Parenthood… As I’ve shared in the past, I love this show, and the house that the Braverman matriarch and patriarch just moved out of has the most perfect backyard. The little lights. The big table. And family all together. Yep!

// The Holiday… Beggers can’t be choosers… I would happily reside in either of the homes featured in this film. That adorable little cottage is as cozy as can be. And the LA bedroom complete with remote-controlled blackout shades… a tired mother’s dream.

// Sex and the City… So I’ve never lived alone. Yep. I went from my parents to my dorm to my sorority house to my sister-in-laws to my sorority house to my parents to being married. But if I had a place to go that was my own, with a small desk for writing that looked out at the street, I think I wouldn’t need much more to my own space. Carrie’s cupboards were always pretty bare and I imagine mine would have been, too, as a singleton. But that desk… with the laptop. And a place to rest your head at night, that’s kinda all you need.

So those are the places that came to mind and that reside in my dreams. As stated, I’m fairly certain there are some favorites that I’m missing {like Mystic, Connecticut, Downtown Abbey, the house in The Family Stone, and that little cottage from the movie Beaches…} but I think that’s a pretty good jump start on my list of places I will be moving should I ever become absurdly wealthy or nomadic.
