My Spaces: A Room To Play

When we toured our house before it was our house, I noted two things that we would likely change. And really, in the big scheme of things, two things, not so bad, right?

Number 1: The amount of very ornamental chandeliers that hung in various rooms in the house {3 to be exact}

Number 2: The purple room.

Even though I am a girl, I am not that into ornamental chandeliers. And even though my boys are not offended by the color purple, I determined that the {very cute and perfectly staged} purple would need to go. Eventually. And then the Oldest requested a desk for Christmas. Which was the perfect nudge for…

CHRISTMAS PROJECT {gift}: NO MORE PURPLE ROOM.

We had the walls painted a light grey. This room is one of the spare bedrooms in the house. Because the two oldest currently share because well, we’re mean parents. So this room had just been a catch all prior to our Christmas surprise.

And the room ended up being a group effort. When I asked a dear framily member if he could put in a window bench, I had no idea what I was asking. It took three men+a passer-by to make it happen.

But once it was up, it fit like a glove.

We painted it white and filled the baskets with toys and such. Including two baskets chock full of Crayola merchandise my cool cousin, Kat, sent for the boys. And yes, I love the baskets, too. I found them at Target and then the window bench was built to suit.

The Oldest’s number 1 item on his Christmas list… a desk. So, we picked this one out from Land of Nod.

We kept an existing extra twin bed and bedding we had in the room for nap time or overnight guests. And added a new overhead light and tee pee from Land of Nod, too. And I snagged the LoN items on a day when they offered free shipping and 20% off. Whoop!

And then, we added in “accessories” with some new+some old items. A giant notepad for coloring courtesy of our friend, Pam. A stack of robots courtesy of Jonah’s Fairy Godmother. And Star Wars framed prints that I snagged for 9.99 each at Marshall’s.

Oh… and the best part… we made one wall a Whiteboard Wall. Our painter found whiteboard paint that you layer over the existing color. As a result, we made that wall just a tad lighter so the boys would hopefully know the difference. Turns out, the littlest can not distinguish between colors {also, if you ever need a great painter and live in the Omaha area, Buttermore Painting is THE BEST.}

And on Christmas morning, when we shared the new space with our trio, I think they approved.

It is rarely as clean as you see it here. Because they actually play in it. So I suppose that has to make a mama and daddy happy. Right?

I absolutely love having a few different spaces for toys and activity. And while the boys still call it the purple room, I think they are jazzed about the updated space as well. The bed will eventually get moved out when we transition the Littlest from a crib. But let’s be real, he’s the wee one. I am hoping he’ll stay in a crib at least until Kindergarten. Right?:)
